Diego Robledo is a Mexican double bassist, composer, producer, and educator whose work spans classical performance, traditional Latin music, and cutting-edge electronic production. Originally from Chiapas, he began his musical journey on drums at age 10 before discovering his true voice in the double bass during high school.
Diego earned his Bachelor of Music from the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas, studying with Luis Navarro and Gerardo Ventura, and later completed a Master of Music at Pennsylvania State University under Robert Nairn and Jeremy McCoy. His orchestral career includes performances with the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra (as principal bass), the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, and numerous ensembles across Mexico and the U.S. He currently serves as principal double bassist of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra.
A multi-faceted artist, Diego’s creative vision extends beyond classical performance. He sings with Ámbar Mariachi, a newly formed ensemble in Vilnius, and is the founder and main producer of La Cumbia del Otro Lado, an original project that fuses Latin rhythms with electronic music. This project reflects his ongoing exploration of cultural identity and innovation, blending traditional sounds with modern production.
As a composer, Diego is dedicated to expanding the repertoire of the double bass, with works like Dos ideas para contrabajo solo available on digital platforms. He also recently completed a certification in Ableton Live, deepening his passion for music production and opening new creative directions.
A committed educator, Diego has taught with Esperanza Azteca, served as a teaching assistant at Penn State, and given masterclasses for El Sistema in Venezuela. Most recently, he was a guest teacher at Guadalajara BassFest 2025. Through all his projects, Diego strives to create music that resonates deeply — and to inspire others to discover their unique voices.
